Dutch free spirit Dave Huismans aka 2562 – the number referring to his former zipcode in The Hague, Holland – is a hard man to pin down. While he’s often classified at the peripheries of what they call bass music, a soundsystem-proof low end and a passionate urge to keep reinventing himself are pretty much the only constant factors in his music making. Most recently his explorations resulted in his third longplayer ‘Fever’, an extreme reworking of late seventies disco and early eighties boogie into something that is heavy on soundshaping and beatfreakery, but more importantly deeply personal and straight from the soul. It marked the launch of his new When In Doubt imprint, a platform for his own endeavours and whichever other good, formula-free music presents itself – if, as and when.
Previous 2562 releases include a string of influential 12”-es and full lengths on Bristol stronghold Tectonic Recordings, as well as a 12” on the colourful 3024 label. Dave has also recorded more techno/house-leaning experiments and even the occasional oddball clubtrack under the name A Made Up Sound, with releases on a.o. Philpot, Subsolo, Clone and Delsin. But that’s another story.
