24-year-old Kevin McAuley began making music with a two-track mixer, a keyboard and a tape deck. Discovering dubstep years later via the sounds of Mala in the backroom of a Leeds club in 2005, Kevin was inspired to found the city’s first dubstep night, Ruffage, and launched himself into the studio. Since then his alter ego Pangaea has released on labels such as Hotflush and Hessle Audio, as well as remix work for Untold and Commix. His recent “Memories” cut proved to be one of the biggest tunes of 2009 and cemented the producer at the forefront of the wave of beat-makers giving dubstep a more upbeat, techy / garage feel. Anyone who loved “Memories” will need to check the opener on this new Hessle Audio double pack. “Why” is a superb bumpin’ future garage track with a strong female vocal sample that manages to be uplifting and melancholic at the same time. Holding that slightly blue feeling is “Sunset Yellow”, a lush techy outing. "5-HTP" closes the first platter in retro jungle style - deep, not jump-up! The second disc opens with half-step dubstepper "Neurons", and also features the bass-warped "Dead Living" and deep, sub-aquatic "Because Of You". Essential stuff folks, snap it up!
