FREE MP3s of Abstractions I-IV by Sigha when you buy the Vinyl

Hotflush presents the return of Sigha with a new EP entitled 'Abstractions I-IV', his sixth on the label. On this release he reaches into darker territory, beginning with a beatless, ambient suspension, drawing the listener in his submerged sonic sphere before dropping into a series of chilling compositions that seem to seethe and smoulder at sub-zero temperatures, adorned with haunting electronic blips and synthetic machinations throughout. Having already gathered support from many figures in the electronic world over the last year including Marcel Dettmann, Brendon Moeller and Francois K, as well as making appearances on Scuba’s recent DJ-KICKS mix compilation with 'Where I Come To Forget' amongst others, James Shaw continues to make his mark with 'Abstractions'.

Scruff Box / Get Yourself Together
Randomer

In a short time, North Londoner Randomer has built up a small but heavy hitting catalogue of work – releasing ‘Brunk’ (on Hessle Audio’s 116 & Rising compilation), the acid tinged ‘Obtuse’ and most recently his dance mania-on-steroids EP for Numbers, 'Real Talk'."
His debut for Hemlock Recordings see's him taking things even further back to basics, dropping two heavyweight trax of pure beats and bassline indulgence. a. Scruff Box's beats roll heavy but with a crafty, garage skip in their step, giving no clues to the obese bass riff that soon rudely exposes itself, tearing through the track roll by roll. aa. Get Yourself Together More of those trademark, overweight beats with one giant, elasticated bassline. For those who like them large and lovely.

Throw In Dirt / The Land
Redshape

FREE MP3s of Throw In Dirt / The Land by Redshape when you buy the Vinyl

As obvious as Techno and House's heavy influence is on 3024, one of the most consistent reference points has been the machine soul emanating from the city of Detroit for the last 30 odd years. We'll spare you yet another Euro-centric pseudo-Sociology lecture but the combination of geography, economics and community has produced music with an influence has consistently reached far beyond Michigan state. For our 17th release 3024 is honoured to continue our trek into the analogue wilderness with another artist heavily inspired by the city, Berlin's near legendary Redshape.

An incredibly well respected artist renowned for his electrifying live sets we're incredibly proud to present a concise 2 track release, the latest addition to a notably selective discography. A-Side 'Throw In Dirt' opens with vintage drum machines locked into a stooped groove as hi-hats spark off the top while a heavily filtered and pitched vocal loop offers dead eyed encouragement. An improbably girthsome analogue bass line curdles almost to the point of sinister before an unambiguously menacing fog of whining synths starts to descend while kick, snare & hats spark and simmer off one another. At the tracks peak another unsettlingly simple melody is played out on keys, before the whole ensemble rumbles over the horizon.

After such an oppressive opener, 'The Land' is a noticeable change of pace. A horizon spanning kick underpins gospel'ish vocal snatches as the familiar hissing of synthesized cymbals shifts and builds on top of bass that's more shudder than line. As these elements coil tighter around one another chiming pads build gradually, until the cymbal rush is momentarily halted, before redoubling it's efforts as the synths become increasingly turbulent. A sudden shift into brighter chords and the arrival of some understated 808 textures push the track further into machine gospel territory and towards a resolution. We're particularly proud of 3024-017's sleeve design as Erosie continues to develop and refine his signature style showcasing a striking and thematically consistent palette switch up.

Ups & Downs VIP / I Am Metal (Compound One Remix)

New York’s premier experimental Drum & Bass imprint, Offshore Recordings, teams with London’s left of centre 170 bpm music tastemaker, Organic, to present the OSRORG series. The two combine mutual musical vision with a joint exploration of the subversive sounds. The creative essence of both New York and London are captured in this transatlantic collaboration- showcasing true urban breakbeat culture.

Fracture & Neptune - "Ups & Downs VIP" - Fracture & Neptune outdo themselves transforming “Ups & Downs VIP” into a straight-up dance floor pleaser. The duo calls on their favorite ingredients; a tough 2 step beat, wall shaking sub-bass and a funked-out Emu bass line. Fracture & Neptune create what is arguably their most dance floor track to date. Proceed with caution when this beast gets dropped.
Graphic feat. Beans - "I Am Metal" Compound One Remix - Compound One blur the lines between Hip Hop and Drum & Bass while reinterpreting another gem from the Offshore vaults. Half-time, bionic drum-beats lacerate through full fat analogue bass tones. On this rare occasion Compound One move away from their usual 140 bpm template and embrace a more dynamic Drum & Bass tempo. To complete the package, artwork has been specially commissioned from Offshore Recordings mainstay and graphic art guru Cede. Articulating the transatlantic nature of the series perfectly while capturing the essence of musical exploration…

Scuba is the production and DJ alias of Paul Rose, the curator of Hotflush Recordings, a label, which having released some of the most important tracks of the formative period of dubstep, has grown into a leading player in the wider world of electronic music. A celebrated and influential DJ, Scuba was voted #25 in Resident Advisor’s 2011 poll of the world’s Top 100 DJs and has also been nominated for several categories in DJ Magazine’s Best of British 2011 Awards.

Earlier this year Scuba released his ‘Adrenalin’ EP, picking up radio plays from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank as well as Mistajam, illustrating how his sound has mutated into previously unexplored areas. Alongside ‘Adrenalin, Scuba also released his addition to K7!’s DJ Kicks series which has made notable appearances on several "Best of 2011" lists.

On the 27th February, Scuba will release his third album through Hotflush. Entitled ‘Personality’ and featuring 11 brand new tracks, it takes in a wealth of genres across contemporary dance music, proving once again Scuba’s place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene. Preceding his LP will be ‘The Hope’; pushing on from the tense atmospherics of previous Scuba material, the single fizzes with claustrophobic bass pressure and menacing narration. Backed by an exclusive non-album cut 'Flash Addict', ‘The Hope’ will proceed the album on the 6th February.
Originally from London, Scuba relocated to Berlin in 2007, and released his debut album, 'A Mutual Antipathy' in 2008. The stylistic synergy of the album cemented his position as one of the most forward-thinking producers to emerge from the London bass scene. In the same year, Scuba founded the massively successful SUB:STANCE night at the legendary Berlin club Berghain. SUB:STANCE has since launched in New York with a look to expanding further in 2012.

Scuba’s second album, 'Triangulation', was released on Hotflush in early 2010, joining the likes of Mount Kimbie, Sepalcure, Joy Orbison, Untold, Sigha and George Fitzgerald on its enviable roster.
With ‘Personality’ due for imminent release and plans for a live show in the works, Paul Rose's constantly developing world seems set to keep on turning in 2012.

Cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest is home to some of the most stunning pieces of scenery the world has to offer. So it’s little surprise that its inhabitants have an appreciation of the more aesthetically pleasing aspects of life.

Spinline are three such inhabitants. Between them Mark Gulacsi, Norbert Safar and Andras Tallai have crafted some of the most ear-pleasing atmospheres in drum & bass, a fact which is substantiated by their appearances on Andy C’s Ram Records and DJ Friction’s Shogun Audio imprint.
Last year saw the trio (alongside Hydro) offer up their Demand Records debut with the incredible ‘Junction 13’ / ‘Perimeter’ and now they’re back with an amazing six-track EP for the label.

The vinyl version spans four tracks, including the sharp edges of ‘Contrast’, the minimal magnificence of ‘Tokyo’, the fantastically different ‘Life’ and the lazy low end of ‘Sundays’. One listen will define this as not only a beautifully crafted selection of drum & bass tracks, but a brave A&R decision from Demand, who are fighting the formulaic clichés that prey on the genre.

Included in the digital pack are two more stunning Spinline productions. ‘Geek’ is infused with breezy brilliance while ‘Protocol’ conjours up visions of a mechanoid future, dominated by machines.

Once again Demand Records prove themselves to be one of the most forward-thinking labels in the scene. Never compromising, never wavering and never doing anything just for the sake of it. This is D&B of the highest quality.

"I don't throw the words avant-garde and celestial around lightly but this touches the very nerve of the craft of this music drum and bass; many years from now when we look back this tune will be a ‘waypoint’ of the times." Goldie, CEO Metalheadz

A dreamteam collaboration to start off Critical’s 2012 season from the hugely lauded Sabre, who returns after a long break since his astonishing debut album of 2010, Stray and Halogenix. The perfect antidote to soothe us out of those January blues, simply gorgeous. ‘Oblique’ kicks off with a delicate but tough break that cuts through the mix as gentle pads wash over the soundscape to a breakdown that oozes class and a deft touch. Smooth keys then drop, light strings and the arrival of a deep soul vocal that carries us through into a midst of aural ear-pleasing. Subtle to the end this is a serious piece of music; reach for your headphones and drift away. The trio get a little harder on the flipside with ‘St. Clair’, a track that toys on the tech-step tip for a slice of glitchy D&B naughtiness. A sprinkle of vocal cuts and blip FX joined by some polished bass make for a peak-time floor filler perfect to get any club bouncing. Also included is a truly sumptuous downbeat remix of ‘Oblique’ from Manchester’s Synkro, a name fast becoming synonymous with the very best in bass music. Critical coming on strong as always for the new year. Keep ‘em peeled.

Ghosts
Monolake

Two years after Monolake's 'Silence' release, Robert Henke is back with a new Monolake album entitled 'Ghosts'. Dark and colorful, with haunting and deep excursions into magic worlds of sound and grooves, held together by a fragmentary story as part of the artwork that indicates a continuation of themes present on 'Silence': Precisely crafted earthshaking beats, rough dirty noises, wide lush soundscapes and little sonic creatures inhabiting a fascinating planet in which a lot of things go badly wrong and nothing is taken for granted. Music that augments reality when listening to whilst commuting, music to get lost in when experienced loud in a club. There is nothing minimal in that music, it is bass heavy and full of detail.

Ghosts is released on Robert Henke's own label Imbalance Computer Music on CD, double vinyl in gatefold packaging and download. The vinyl version includes on bonus CD with all tracks in digital format. CD version comes in luxury digipack.
